Facebook Worm "Koobface" Terrorizes the Social Network

Computer WormIf you've been receiving weird messages from your friends on Facebook and/or Myspace, chances are they're the "Koobface" computer worm (not virus) trying to "phish" out or gather crucial personal information like login credentials and credit card numbers and details.

As I mentioned, Koobface's attack strategy is to come in as a seemingly harmless message, containing a link to another website that has nothing to do with Facebook. When you click on that link, you will be prompted to download something (Adobe Flash plug-in) and if you still can't smell something odd and proceed to accept that download, the damage will start to occur. The Koobface worm will then install Trojan horse program and the Koobface creator will now have control over your computer.

As if it's not yet bad enough, this Facebook worm will automatically spread itself over your other social networking accounts.

According to Wiki: Two variants of the virus have been identified: Net-Worm.Win32.Koobface.a, which attacks Myspace and Net-Worm.Win32.Koobface.b, which attacks Facebook.

To be safe, just don't open anything suspicious and don't ever download anything! Better yet, get a good security or antivirus program.
