White jug with flowers
Oil on wood panel 10" x 10"
This was a bit of a strange experience. I managed to block in/underpaint this during the week but the final painting had to wait till today. I decided to try some Old Holland spirit based oils (usually I use water based oils or acrylics) that had been given to me as a gift. I supplemented them with a small number of Michael Harding oils. This was the first time I had seriously tried to paint with this kind of oil paint - and it made me paint differently. I found I was "placing" the paint on rather then scumbling it on so brush strokes were much more visible than usual. And this time it was quite enjoyable. The whole experience though was scary. I began to realise I could not afford to make too many mistakes with colour choices. I'm going to try them again but perhaps with a simpler composition and even more limited palette.
